WILL ON IMMIGRATION
With the lives and livelihood of so many families at stake, Congress has exceeded its deadline to pass comprehensive immigration reform and end its piecemeal approach to fixing our immigration system. Doing so will bring relief to millions of immigrants, help our business communities plan for the future, and protect our country’s borders.
At the same time, we must remember what truly makes America great: our strength has always been our diversity, seen in the unique path our people have taken to get here. Our country was founded on the ideals of liberty, equality, and humanity for all, and the Trump Administration’s current practice of ripping families apart at the border and caging young children is inhumane, barbaric, and 100 percent anti-American. As your Member of Congress, I’ll fight to immediately end the human rights violations currently taking place at America’s border. We can secure our border against illegal immigration without eviscerating our commitment to just human rights practices.
We must also ensure that DREAMers are no longer used as political pawns by an administration that seeks to implement far-right immigration policies to the detriment of our nation. DREAMers are our friends, our family members, and our colleagues. They are dedicated and loyal members of our community who pay taxes, enrich our society, and in many cases, serve bravely in our Armed Forces. I stand with our DREAMers and, when elected, will work tirelessly to ensure that they are given the respect they deserve with a real pathway to citizenship.
